Explosion rocks Mazar-e-Sharif city

MAZA-E-SHARIF (SW) – Local sources in Balkh told Salam Watandar that around 7:15 this morning, a powerful explosion rocked Mazar-e-Sharif, the capital of this province.

According to the sources, a passenger bus was targeted by a mine explosion near Seyed Abad intersection in Mazar-e-Sharif.

Health officials at Abu Ali Sina Balkhi Hospital in Mazar-e-Sharif confirmed that 8 people were killed and 10 injured were transferred to the hospital from the explosion site this morning.

Earlier, Mohammad Assef Waziri, the spokesman of the Balkh Security Command, has confirmed this explosio. He told Salaam Watandar that the explosion occurred in the Syed Abad area, in the third district of Mazar-e-Sharif city.

The spokesperson of the Balkh Security Command added that as a result of this explosion, a number of people have been killed and injured. But according to him, there is no information about the exact number of casualties so far.

No person or group has yet claimed responsibility for this explosion.
