UNAMA takes notice of the arrest of rights activists

KABUL (SW) – The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has taken notice of the arrest of rights activists.

The UNAMA stated in a statement on the social media that it has spoken with the Islamic Emirate officials about the situation of Zarifa Yaqoubi and four other activists who were arrested in Kabul yesterday.

UNAMA added that “all Afghans have the fundamental right to peaceful assembly and freedom of speech and opinion, without fear and arrest.”

According to reports, Zarifa Yaqoubi, a women’s rights activist and a member of the protesting women group, was arrested yesterday along with four other young men in the west of Kabul by the forces of the Islamic Emirate.

The authorities of the Islamic Emirate have not yet said anything about this.
