KABUL (SW) -The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has said that due to the deadly earthquake in Khost’s Spera district, the threat of cholera spreading has increased.

In a tweet, UNICEF humanitarian worker Annie Kondrochek wrote that she visited the areas that were the most damaged in the recent earthquake.

She wrote: “We only visited some of the areas that were the most damaged as a result of the recent earthquake. After the earthquake, there is an increased threat of cholera, which can be fatal for children”.

Before this, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aid, OCHA, and a number of other organizations had announced the threat of cholera spreading in the earthquake-affected areas.

According to official figures, more than a thousand people died and thousands more were injured due to the devastating earthquake on June 22 in Paktika and Khost provinces.
