SHARANA (SW) – A mortar shell explosion in Paktika killed one child and injured two other, confirmed officials.
The local officials of Paktika say that this incident happened last evening in the village of Yahyakhil in Yahyakhil district of this province.
Mohammad Amin Huzaifa, head of information and culture of Paktika, told Salam Watandar that the explosion occurred when a number of children were playing with a mortar shell.
He added that one child died in this explosion and two other children were wounded and taken to the hospital on time.
The head of information and culture of Paktika emphasized that although demining agencies have tried to clean the areas contaminated with mines and unexploded ordnance in this province, there are still large amounts of unexploded ordnance in Paktika and children are killed every now and then.
