No breakthrough in talks between Islamic Emirate delegation and a local commander in Sar-e-Pul

KABUL (SW) – Several rounds of talks between the Islamic Emirate delegation and Mehdi Mujahid, a local commander of the ethnic Hazara community in the Islamic Emirate in Sar-e-Pul province have failed to deliver a breakthrough.

According to the source, the new round of talks is scheduled to begin on Tuesday. The source added that efforts are underway and the Islamic Emirate wants to end the tensions in any way possible. The return of Mehdi Mojahed to Kabul and the acceptance of the demands of the Islamic Emirate are the purpose of these talks.

Meanwhile, a number of residents of Balkhab and Sancharak districts of Sar-e-Pul province say that the situation in these two districts has become tense. According to residents, if the talks fail, there will be a bloody war between the two sides.

A number of residents of Balkhab district of Sar-e-Pul province who have come to the center of the province say that the current situation in Balkhab is worrying. They added that the opposition fronts of Mehdi and the Islamic Emirate forces are lined up against each other.

Zahra, a resident of Balkhab district who came to the center of Sar-e-Pul with her family, told Salam Watandar that if the current situation in Balkhab did not return to normal and talks between the two sides failed, Afghanistan would go to civil war again.

According to her, access to Balkhab district is now difficult and both factions have imposed security restrictions in the areas under their control.

Another another resident of Balkhab district, who did not want to be named, said that residents of the district, with the support of residents of several other provinces, had asked Mehdi Mujahed to fight against the opposition.

According to him, the visit of the delegation of the Islamic Emirate to Balkhab has ended in vain.

According to tribal elders, the differences between Mehdi Mujahed and the Islamic Emirate forces, who are longtime friends and current enemies, have escalated.

Abdul Khabir, a tribal elder in Sar-e-Pul, said: “Disputes between Mehdi Mujahed and the Islamic Emirate arose in Bamyan and turned into enmity in Balkhab, Sar-e-Pul. Both sides are now recruiting troops from different provinces against each other.”

We were unable to obtain the views of local officials in Sar-e-Pul regarding the security situation in the province and the recent tensions.

Hundreds of fighters from the Islamic Emirate in Sancharak district and hundreds of other fighters from Mehdi Mujahid in Balkhab district are currently on standby, and some Ministry of Defense helicopters have entered the provincial capital, according to sources. .
