Muttaqi says foreign diplomatic missions to resume operations

KABUL (SW) – Amir Khan Muttaqi, interim head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has hinted that a number of countries are set to re-establish their diplomatic presence in Afghanistan.

Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi said the Islamic Emirate’s engagement with the world was expanding and that embassies of several other countries were to be reopened in Kabul.

National Radio and Television quoted Muttaqi as saying on Twitter that Kabul wanted to establish diplomatic relations with the international community and that a number of countries were planning to reopen their embassies in Kabul.

“We have good relations with the world and these relations are expanding,” Mottaqi was quoted as saying. “We hope to have more achievements in the future.”

National Radio and Television did not name these countries and did not provide details on the exact time of the reopening of the embassies.

Following the establishment of the Islamic Emirate, all countries closed their embassies in Kabul and their representations in the provinces.

Since then, a handful of countries, including China, Pakistan, Russia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and most recently India, have reopened their embassies in Kabul.

A small number of countries have also received Islamic Emirate diplomats at Afghan embassies abroad.
