SAR-E-PUL (SW) – Fighting between two Islamic Emirate factions have left at least 17 people killed, sources told Salam Watandar.
A source in Balkhab district of Sar-e-Pul province, who did not want to be named, told Salam Watandar that a sporadic clash broke out between the Islamic Emirate forces and Mehdi Mujahid, commander of the Islamic Emirate’s ethnic Hazara forces between Balkhab and Sancharak districts, around 10 am today.
According to the source, 12 forces of the Islamic Emirate and 5 members of Mehdi were killed in yesterday’s clashes that lasted for several hours.
The source added that the forces of the Islamic Emirate have now retreated from the Sancharak district in the Qaruq Qazi area.
Local and security officials in Sar-e-Pul have not yet commented.
A number of residents of Balkhab and Sancharak districts say that many families have fled their homes due to the conflict in the area.
Meanwhile, Fasihuddin Fitrat, Chief of Staff of the Islamic Emirate Army, and Mohammad Zarif Muzaffar, Commander of the 207th Al-Farooq Corps in Herat, arrived in Sar-e-Pul province yesterday to review the security situation.
