Fees paid for passports go to bank officials

JALALABAD (SW) – A number of passport applicants in Nangarhar province told Salam Watandar that the money they had paid for the passports has gone into the personal pockets of bank officials.

They sent receipts of their bank payments to Salam Watandar, claiming that they had paid for passports at the Da Afghanistan Bank branch in Jalalabad, but the money transferred from the bank did not reach to the passport office.

Inamuddin, pseudonym, from Nangarhar, told Salam Watandar that local officials had repeatedly promised to solve his problem, but that it had not been resolved.

“The identical documents that were rejected in Kabul, I saw 1163 such cases,” he said. “The list also included the names of me, my wife and three children who were rejected. This bank slip is fake. It turned out that the bank staff had stolen our money. ”

Meanwhile, another Nangarhar resident, Fahim, a pseudonym, said he had been promised a solution to the problem for the past few months, but said the problem had not been resolved and the fate of the money paid was unknown.

At the same time, they say, the process of getting a passport is slow and difficult, which has heated up the market for commission agents.

On the other hand, Hamida Madadi, a resident of Kabul, said that it has been almost five months since she completed the legal process to get a passport, but she has not received one yet.

In this regard, we tried to get the opinion of the officials of the Ministry of Interior and the Passport Department, but we did not succeed. It comes as the cabinet of the Islamic Emirate approved a proposal to print three million additional passports yesterday.
