KABUL SW) – Abdullah Abdullah, former head of the defunct High Council for National Reconciliation, returned to Kabul on Saturday following a trip abroad for 43 days.
Abdullah was welcomed at the airport by Fazl Hadi Muslimyar, former Speaker of the Masharano Jirga (upper house) and a number of officials of the Islamic Emirate.
The Islamic Emirate allowed Abdullah Abdullah to leave Kabul during the Eid al-Fitr holiday. He had traveled to India to visit his family.
Reports suggest following its re-establishment, the Islamic Emirate restricted the foreign travel of Abdullah as well as former president Hamid Karzai, Fazl Hadi Muslimyar and a number of other politicians. Abdullah and Muslimar later traveled abroad, but the Islamic Emirate has not yet allowed Karzai to leave Kabul.
It should be noted that the Islamic Emirate has recently set up a commission to contact Afghan politicians living abroad for return to the country and several former government officials have returned to Kabul via the commission.
