MONITORING (SW) – Former president Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has said Afghanistan has entered a ‘dangerous phase’ and monopoly of power would only exacerbated the situation.
In his message on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, he said that Afghanistan is in the worst situation in history and it is necessary that we all accept each other and work together to prevent further catastrophes.
In the message, which was broadcast live on his Facebook page hours ago, he stressed that there is no way out of the current situation in the country except through national consensus. “The monopoly of power is exacerbating the situation,” Ghani said.
“We have to learn from history and we cannot convince Afghans by force,” Ghani said.
The former president has stated that gaining power is easy, but the monopoly of power is not permanent. “Power is a means of service, not a means of destruction,” he added.
In his message, Ashraf Ghani also expressed concern about the country’s economic situation, saying that it would be difficult to resolve the issue without gaining international legitimacy.
He referred to the recent attacks on schools and educational institutions, saying that they should be stopped, otherwise “once the gates of suicide attacks and explosions are opened, it will be difficult to prevent them.” Ghani also criticised the Islamic Emirate’s move to keep girls’ schools closed.
The former president of Afghanistan had previously emphasized national consensus and called for paving the way for national dialogue in the country in a message on the occasion of the solar New Year. He said the country’s citizens were at a crossroads, and that repeating past mistakes and relying on monopoly could rekindle the war in Afghanistan.
More than eight months have passed since the establishment of the Islamic Emirate government in Afghanistan, and so far it has not been recognized by any country because of what is called a monopolistic and mono-ethnic government.
