String of road accidents on Eid day leaves hundreds injured

MONITORING (SW) – Hundreds of people got injured in traffic accidents during the three days of Eid al-Fitr across the country, confirmed officials on Thursday.

Authorities in Paktika said four people lost their lives and over a hundred got hurt in some 170 road accidents in provincial capital Sharana and different districts during Eid al-Fitr.

Dr. Azim Gul Jalali, an official at the Paktika Central Hospital, told Salam Watandar that during the three days and nights of Eid, they had received four dead and more than 100 injured in traffic accidents.

He added that most of the injured and dead were due to collisions between motorcycles and cars.

Golzada Sangar, a spokesman for the Nangarhar District Hospital, told Salam Watandar that 132 people had been injured in traffic accidents here.

According to him, most of the injured in these incidents are young people.

In western Herat province, health officials confirm that about 200 people have been injured in traffic accidents in the province during Eid al-Fitr.

Mohammad Arif Jalali, chief physician of the Herat District Hospital, told Salam Watandar that in the three days of Eid al-Fitr in the province, 192 people were injured and one died as a result of traffic accidents.

According to the chief physician of the Herat District Hospital, the injured were women, children and men.

Officials say most of these incidents occurred as a result of drivers’ carelessness.
