Flash floods inflict heavy toll on residents in Faryab

KABUL (SW) – Flash floods have inflicted heavy toll on residents in Faryab province, said officials on Wednesday.

Local sources in Faryab say that last night, floods in different parts of Maimana city, the capital of the province, caused casualties and financial losses to the residents.

Azizullah, a resident of the third district of Maimana, told Salam Watandar that the floods had damaged more than 500 houses and caused huge financial losses to residents.

Meanwhile, a source from Faryab Central Hospital told Salam Watandar that the bodies of two children had been taken to the hospital due to last night’s floods.

Asadullah Waqas, head of the Faryab Disaster Management Authority, confirmed the incident, saying that the floods had caused severe damage to people, but that no exact information was available.

According to the director of disaster relief, an emergency meeting has been held with the aid agencies and the injured will be treated soon.

The Meteorological Department of Afghanistan has warned of the possibility of heavy rain with thunderstorms, hurricanes and floods in 27 provinces of the country. The department has forecast rainfall in different places between 20 and 60 mm.
