Flash floods cause heavy losses in different provinces

MONITORING (SW) – Flash floods caused by torrential rains have caused heavy human and financial losses in a number of provinces. 

Due to the rains and floods in Faryab, Baghlan, Parwan and Badghis provinces, huge financial and human losses have been inflicted on the residents of these provinces.

Azizullah, a resident of Faryab, told Salam Watandar that more than 500 houses were damaged last night following floods in the third district of Maimana city, the provincial capital.

According to the Faryab resident, a number of houses were completely destroyed by the floods and others were partially destroyed. He added that the property of the houses has also been destroyed.

Meanwhile, Sayed Massoud, Faryab’s director of disaster management, said that four people had been killed and 1,300 houses damaged in the past 24 hours in Qaisar, Kohistan, Pashtun Kot and Maimana. According to him, hundreds of acres of agricultural lands were destroyed and about 300 cattle were lost.

Sources in Baghlan province also told the media that four people had been killed in the floods in the province, but Mustafa Hashemi, director of information and culture in Baghlan, confirmed that only one person had been killed in the province and announced preparations to clean up the flooded areas.

On the other hand, sources in Parwan and Badghis provinces say that five people died in the floods in Baghis and two others in Parwan province.

Maidan Wardak, Helmand and Farah provinces also witnessed floods and hurricanes. Residents of these provinces say they have suffered severe financial damage and agricultural fields and orchards have been damaged.

Officials from the Disaster Management Departments in these provinces emphasize that they are fully prepared to reach the injured and will be assisted soon.
