KABUL (SW) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has urged for restraints in the wake of armed conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
It issued a statement saying that Afghanistan is closely monitoring the situation in Ukraine and is concerned about possible civilian casualties. The statement was issued by Abdul Qahar Balkhi, the ministry’s spokesman, on Twitter today.
In the statement, the MoFA called for patience and restraint on both sides of the conflict. The statement said that the two sides should refrain from taking positions that would exacerbate the war.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has emphasized that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, based on its policy of neutrality, calls on Russia and Ukraine to resolve the current crisis through dialogue and peaceful means.
The ministry also called on the warring parties to pay attention to the lives of Afghan students and travelers living in Ukraine.
Russia’s military strike on Ukraine is in its second day. At least 137 Ukrainians were killed and more than 300 were injured on the first day of the attack, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelinsky said.
Ukrainian officials have also claimed that Russian troops have been killed and several fighter jets, helicopters, vehicles and tanks destroyed by Russian forces.
