Former state minister for peace affairs returns to Kabul

KABUL (SW) – Abdul Salam Rahimi, former state minister for peace affairs, has returned to Afghanistan and met with the leaders of the Islamic Emirate.

Abdul Salam Rahimi, Minister of State for Peace Affairs of the former government and Special Representative of former president Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, returned to Kabul and met with the senior officials on Saturday.

According to the state-run RTA news, he met with Amir Khan Mottaqi, the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate, after returning to the country.

In the broadcast video, Amir Khan Muttaqi expressed optimism about the return of Abdul Salam Rahimi and called his beneficial for all. In this video, Muttaqi said Salam and other politicians can return and even express their views on the state-run broadcaster even if they are against the government.

“You made a good decision to return,” Amir Khan Muttaqi told Rahimi during the meeting. He further told Abdul Salam Rahimi, the former president’s special envoy, that there were no long-running military conflict in Kabul now and everyone was having a safe life.

The RTA reported that Abdul Salam Rahimi called his return to the country out of “love for the homeland” and that he could not live far from home for long.

Abdul Salam Rahimi was the Minister of State for Peace during the reign of Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, and in the last months of his rule, he was named by Ghani as Special Representative for Peace, who left the country with the fall of the regime and has now returned.
