Paktika resident hoist tricolor Afghan flags on shops, markets

SHARANA (SW) – A number of Paktika province residents raised the tricolor national flag of Afghanistan on their shops and markets, which was met strong resistance from the Islamic Emirate forces.

Munawar Mubarez, a resident of Urgon district, told Salam Watandar that a number of residents raised the tricolor national flag in a bid to express support for it. According to Mubarez, at first the officials of the Islamic Emirate in the district did not react to the action of the residents and did not oppose it, but then the forces of the Islamic Emirate forcefully collected the tricolor flags.

Meanwhile, Ehsan Zadran, another resident of the district, said the forces of the Islamic Emirate had collected tricolor flags and beaten a number of people for hoisting them.

But, Bilal Hudhaifa, head of information and culture at the Islamic Emirate in Paktika, said the raising and lowering of the flags was carried out by residents of the the district and that the forces of the Islamic Emirate did not beat anyone.

The move was made by Paktika residents followed remarks by Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesman for the Islamic Emirate, on social media that the tricolor flag might be recognized as Afghanistan’s national flag.
