10 coal miners lose their lives in Baghlan

PUL-I-KHUMRI (SW) – An accident in a coal mine in Baghlan province has claimed the lives of at least 10 laborers, confirmed officials.

Local sources in Baghlan said that at least 10 workers got killed as the coal mine collapsed in Nahrin district of the province.

Abdullah Hamed, head of the coal mine in Nahrin district, confirmed that the incident took place last night in one of the Chenarak coal tunnels.

According to him, the technical team rescued more than 10 people who were in the first part of the tunnel late last night. The head of the coal mine in Nahrin district added that the bodies of the victims had also been exhumed.

The cause of this accident has not been determined.

Similar incidents have already claimed the lives of a number of mine workers in some of the province’s coal mines in the past as well.
