KABUL (SW) – There were chaotic scenes at the Afghan Embassy in Rome when a former diplomat claimed to be appointed as envoy in Italy by the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
The Afghan Embassy in Rome has issued a statement saying that Mohammad Fahim Kashaf, a former embassy diplomat, had entered the diplomatic mission illegally and had a physical confrontation with the ambassador, and claimed to be appointed by the Islamic Emirate as Afghanistan’s new ambassador in Italy.
The statement said that after the clash, the police expelled Kashaf from the embassy.
But, Abdul Qahar Balkhi, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate, has rejected the appointment of Mohammad Fahim Kashaf as Afghanistan’s ambassador to Rome. Balkhi wrote on his Twitter: “The Islamic Emirate has not appointed Mohammad Fahim Kashaf as ambassador and he has been working as the first secretary since ‘Qaws 1399’ (2021), and he will continue this task until the ‘Jadi’ month of 1402 (2024).”
Meanwhile, a number of political analysts have expressed concern that such an event threatens Afghanistan’s prestige and even its assets.
Political scientist Mohibullah Sharif says that until the Islamic Emirate is recognized, it should talk to the countries of the world and take measures to preserve the prestige, property and political representations of the country to prevent such events.
He added that according to the accepted norms, in order to protect the representation, assets and other issues, it is necessary for the embassies to have diplomatic relations with the relevant country.
Khaplavak Zazai, another political analyst, says that the current system of governance has not been recognized internationally, that embassies belong to the republican system, and that former diplomats have resumed their duties. He added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate should hold talks with other countries in order to prevent the misuse of the country’s assets.
