Cabinet calls for release of inmates in arbitrary detentions

KABUL (SW) – The cabinet of ministers of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has called for swift release of inmates kept in arbitrary detentions.

The Directorate of Islamic Emirate Affairs of Afghanistan has announced that a commission has been appointed to inspect all prisons in the center and provinces in order to implement the order of Mullah Hebatullah Akhundzadeh, the leader of the Islamic Emirate, regarding the release of innocent prisoners.

The statement said that at the 17th meeting of the cabinet of the Islamic Emirate, led by Prime Minister Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund, it was decided to appoint a delegation headed by Sheikh Abdul Malik, Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, to inspect prisons and detention centers.

The panel is tasked with meeting with all detainees and making an immediate decision on the release of those who have been acquitted. In addition, those who have imprisoned the innocent should be imprisoned themselves.

Last month, the cabinet of the Islamic Emirate instructed all affiliated institutions not to detain detainees longer than the allotted time.
