MONITORING (SW) – The US has pledged to provide $ 474 million in humanitarian aid and a million more does of the Covid-19 vaccines to Afghanistan.
The State Department’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan, Thomas West, has announced that the United States will provide this aid to the country.
West tweeted that with one million more doses of the vaccine, the number of US-assisted vaccines in Afghanistan would reach 4.3 million. He added that $ 474 million in humanitarian aid had been added to the country’s support this year.
The US Secretary of State’s Special Envoy for Peace in Afghanistan has emphasized that the United States stands with the Afghan people.
With the rise to power of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, nearly $ 10 billion worth of assets in US Central Bank have been frozen by Washington, and Afghanistan’s access to IMF reserves has also been suspended.
Although the Islamic Emirate officials have repeatedly stated that they want good and close relations with the United States and that the country should release Afghanistan’s funds, Washington has emphasized that freeing Afghanistan’s frozen money is a complex and challenging issue.
However, international organizations have repeatedly warned of the economic collapse and worsening humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, saying that if the US does not ease its restrictions and provide immediate humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan, there will be a humanitarian catastrophe.
