KABUL (SW) – A top US diplomat has stressed that the Taliban’s Islamic Emirate needs to meet conditions for international recognition.
Thomas West, the US State Department’s special envoy for peace in Afghanistan, has said that the United States will not recognize the Islamic Emirate until the Islamic Emirate meets the conditions of the United States and the international community.
“Although the United States is aware of the situation in Afghanistan and is concerned about the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the country, but the release of the frozen currency of this country by the United States depends on the implementation of their conditions by the Islamic Emirate.
According to the US envoy, the country is not confident that the Islamic Emirate will respect the rights of Afghan girls and women and fulfill their obligations to the international community. He added that the Islamic Emirate must fulfill its obligations and reassure the United States in this regard.
Meanwhile, Anas Haqqani, a member of the political office of the Islamic Emirate in Qatar, in a conversation with the media, called the non-recognition of the Islamic Emirate by the international community an injustice against the citizens of Afghanistan and said that the Islamic Emirate does not need the international community as much as the world needs it. The world needs the Islamic Emirate, he said.
About four months after the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan took power, no country has yet recognized this government, which has led to an economic crisis and a dire humanitarian situation.
