Broadcasting of women’s voices, music banned

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (SW) – The Taliban’s Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has banned the broadcasting of women’s voices and music from the radio stations in Balkh, Takhar and Jawzjan provinces.
The committee released a report on Sunday stating that the Islamic Emirate has imposed restrictions on the appearance of female journalists, serials, films and advertisements in these provinces and in Ghor province.
According to the report, the officials of the Department of ‘Amr bil Maroof wa Nahi anil Munkir’ (Promoting the Good and Forbidding the Bad) of the Islamic Emirate for Balkh, in a meeting with reporters, reminded that media officials could not broadcast music through their media. This department also told media officials in the province to force female journalists to observe the Islamic hijab, said the report.
The report states that the Islamic Emirate in Takhar also told media officials that they could not broadcast serials and films in which the faces of female actors were shown. The Islamic Emirate has also banned the broadcasting of women’s voices through the media in the province, it added.
In Jawzjan province, officials of the Islamic Emirate have banned the broadcasting of music on audio media platforms, saying that no media outlet is allowed to broadcast music. The report of the Committee to Protect Journalists of Afghanistan also states that the Islamic Emirate has allowed the media in Ghor to broadcast music and entertainment programs, but said that Islamic advertising should be used instead of music in programs and announcements.
Islamic Emirate officials have not yet responded to the report by the Committee to Protect Journalists.
