‘Supreme Council of National Resistance’ formed

KABUL (SW) – A number of political and jihadi leaders who went abroad with the rise to power of the Taliban have announced the formation of the ‘Supreme Council of National Resistance of the Islamic Republic’.

Rahmatullah Bezanpour, a person close to Atta Mohammad Noor, said that the council has so far included figures like Atta Mohammad Noor, Abdul Rab Rasul Sayyaf, Mohammad Younis Qanuni, Mohammad Mohaqiq and Abdul Rashid Dostum.

According to him, the council is working with other political figures inside the country, such as Hamid Karzai and Abdullah Abdullah, to form a resistance against the Taliban government.

The council’s statement, which has so far been published on the official pages of Atta Mohammad Noor and Abdul Rab Rasul Sayyaf, states that a committee has been appointed by them to start talks with other personalities, parties and groups. The declaration emphasized uon reaching a political solution, but there was also mention of a military option if the talks fail.

On the other hand, a number of political analysts believe that the purpose of establishing this council is only to gain concessions from the current government and to be included in it, and it will not lead to any results.

Mustafa Alizadeh, a political analyst, said the leaders, who should have acted at the beginning of the fall of Kabul, preferred to flee.

According to him, they have always pursued their own interests and people will no longer trust them. With the full control of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, a number of former government figures and jihadi leaders fled the country, and their whereabouts are unknown.
