Family members  of war victims in Badghes in need of help

QLA-E-NAU (SW) – Families of many war-victims are faced with devastating circumstances in the western Badghes province.

To see their lives from up close, I entered a house where a 76-year-old man lived with his wife. His name is Juma Niaz. He could hardly speak. He said he had a son who was the sole breadwinner of their family of three and was killed three years ago in a battle between former government security forces and the Taliban.

Juma Niaz said he is currently in a bad economic situation and is in dire need of help. “We have no one, we are two old people, and we have no workers and nothing else. Prior to this transformation of the state, a pension fund was paid to us for our fallen son, but no more. If it were, it would be our solution now that we have nothing left. We expect the government to address our issues, and resolve our grievances, we are very disturbed.

Meanwhile, some other families of war victims in Badghes say that for the past two years, and with the establishment of the Islamic Emirate, they have still not been able to receive the pension fees and are living in poor conditions.

These families are asking for immediate help from national and international institutions, especially the officials of the Islamic Emirate. They say that poverty, unemployment and not receiving the compensations of martyrs and the disabled have caused them to live in a bad situation.

However, Abdul Samad Javed, the governor of the Islamic Emirate in Badghes, said that the Taliban were trying to look after the families of the war victims by setting up a dedicated committee.
