Evacuation begins of stranded Afghan citizens from India

MONITORING (SW) – The Afghan Embassy in New Delhi has announced to begin evacuation of its citizens who were stranded in India.

The Afghan embassy in New Delhi issued a statement announcing that the process of transferring its citizens who had gone to India for treatment and were stranded after the political upheaval in the country has begun.

The embassy said in the statement that the process of transferring hundreds of Afghans detained in India had begun following the establishment of a mechanism in close coordination between the two countries.

These Afghan citizens are expected to return to Afghanistan via Iran.

According to the embassy in New Delhi, the first batch consisted of 106 people had been flown to Tehran by Iranian’s Mahan Airline.

The embassy added that in addition to Iran, it was also looking for other ways to transfer these citizens to Afghanistan.

It should be noted that after the rise to power of the Taliban’s Islamic Emirate in Afghanistan, hundreds of Afghan citizens who had gone to India for medical treatment got stuck there and would not return.
