MONITORING (SW) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said his country’s representatives will attend the inauguration of the new government in Afghanistan if the Taliban ensure it is inclusive.
He has confirmed that Russia has received an invitation to attend the inauguration of the Taliban government.
“We want to support the process of forming a government that includes all sections of Afghan society, including the Taliban and other non-Pashtun tribes, including the Hazaras, Uzbeks and Tajiks,” he added. “Only an inclusive government can ensure a steady transition to a new life.”
According to Lavrov, Russia will be happy to help form and guarantee an inclusive government, in which case it will participate in the ceremony with other countries influencing the situation in Afghanistan.
The Taliban have reportedly invited Russia, China, Iran, Pakistan, Turkey and Qatar to attend the announcement of their new government.
Taliban leaders have previously said they are working to create an inclusive government that will involve all ethnicities.
Meanwhile, China has said it supports the formation of an open, inclusive, broad-based government in Afghanistan with moderate and prudent domestic and foreign policies that live well with neighboring countries. Beijing, however, has not said anything about receiving an invitation to attend the inauguration of the new Taliban government.
It should be noted that according to Taliban officials, the new government is set to be announced in the coming days.
Many countries have already said that they will decide on the issue of recognition later, given the formation and functioning of the Taliban government.
