President Ghani: Fighting the aggressors is a national duty of all

KABUL (SW) – President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, in a special joint session of the parliament, said that Afghanistan has been invaded and the current war is imposed on the country, so the fight against the aggressors is a national duty of all citizens.

The President added that the government took a political and soft path to save the people from brutal killing and to establish lasting peace in the country, but the enemy not only did not take steps towards peace, but assumed the government’s softness as weakness and intensified the fire of war.

According to Ghani, the Taliban have become more violent, cruel and savage than in the past and are trying to destroy the history and geography of this land, which is why they have removed the subjects of history and geography from the curriculum in the schools under their control.

“Today we are facing a major national test and now is the time for unity and solidarity and there is no opportunity for grievances and complaints,” he said.

According to the president, unity is essential for victory and survival, and now it was time to start a national dialogue, because there was no lasting peace in the minds of the Taliban unless the government changed the situation on the battlefield.

“We have faced an unexpected situation in the last three months, and now there is a relative deployment of forces, and we plan to complete this deployment in the next six months,” said President Ghani.

He called on members of the parliament to use their influence for a major public mobilization to respond decisively to the enemy and secure Afghanistan’s future.

In another part of his speech, Ghani said that the Taliban had strengthened their ties with international terrorist groups and violated religious and international laws.

According to him, behind the current battles in Afghanistan is an unholy coalition of international terrorists, extortionists and smugglers, because the interests of these groups are served in the insecurity of Afghanistan.

The president said all preparations have been made to quell the Taliban insurgency in the next six months, with the army focusing on strategic goals, police guarding cities and districts, and the NDS taking care of the public mobilization.

Speaking on the occasion, Mir Rehman Rehmani, speaker of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house), said the house was using all its powers to support the security forces. He praised the popular mobilization against the Taliban and said that the creation of a national mobilization would strengthen the morale of the security forces.

Rahmani said the Taliban need to know that war is not the solution to Afghanistan’s problems.
