Ghazni governor arrested by police

KABUL (SW) – The governor of Ghazni province, Mohammad Davood has been taken into custody by the security forces upon retreat from the province following the Taliban advances.

Interior Ministry spokesman Mirwais Stanekzai has said that the police arrested Mohammad Davood and his deputy in Maidan Shahr, the capital of Maidan Wardak as he was fleeing from Ghazni to Kabul.

Pictures of the Taliban insurgents providing him safe passage angered many social media users.

Meanwhile, Sharifullah Hotak, a member of Maidan Wardak Provincial Council, has also confirmed the arrest of governor Davood.

Ghazni has reportedly not yet fallen completely to the Taliban, and the security forces are resisting the group.
