Massoud says gov’t, Taliban have many similarities

KABUL (SW) – Ahmad Wali Massoud, head of the Ahmad Shah Massoud Foundation, criticized the government’s performance at a news conference in Kabul on Monday.

Massoud said that the situation in the country had become “extremely critical” due to mismanagement and unplanned government actions. According to him, the government is currently divided between establishing peace and managing the war and has no clear plan to get out of the situation.

The head of the Ahmad Shah Massoud Foundation claimed that the government and the Taliban have many similarities in consolidating and gaining power, and that both sides are seeking to monopolize power and establish an authoritarian regime.

He emphasized that there are many similarities between the government and the Taliban. According to him, the Taliban have ignited war in the name of religion, and the government is doing the same using democracy.

According to Massoud, before the attacks by the Taliban intensified, the government used propaganda to gain access to important parts of the country.

When contacted, the Presidential Palace dubbed Massoud’s allegations as expression of his personal views.

In his remarks, Massoud added that the leadership of the government seeks to maintain its power in the country by continuing violence, while the greatest damage is done to civilians. He called for complete overhaul of the political system to overcome the crisis.
