No plans to close down, says US Embassy in Kabul

KABUL (SW) – The US Embassy in Kabul clarified it was to stay in Afghanistan and have a robust diplomatic presence in Kabul to carry out the range of work it do with the government and people of Afghanistan.

In a series of tweets, it said on Sunday that the Embassy has no plans to close down. It added the US was aware of security challenges to operating in Afghanistan, but will adjust the presence as necessary to address these challenges.



The U.S. Embassy said it was constantly planning for contingencies and ways to mitigate risks to its people and programs. “We are aware of security challenges to operating in #Afghanistan, & we will adjust our presence as necessary to address these challenges”, it said.

The Embassy further said it was confident to conduct its work in a safe manner to the benefit of Afghanistan the bilateral relationship. Similar to all of our missions overseas, the Embassy has well-developed security plans to safely protect our personnel and facilities, it added.

It further said as President Biden and Secretary Blinken have said, while the U.S. military presence in Afghanistan is ending, the U.S. Embassy will continue the diplomatic, humanitarian, and security assistance programs in Afghanistan.
