MFA rejects the Russian envoy’s comments on the Taliban’s will for peace

KABUL (SW) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has rejected the Russian envoy’s remarks regarding the Taliban’s will for a political settlement in Afghanistan.

In response to Zamir kabulov’s remarks, the MFA said the Taliban have never shown readiness to resolve the crisis politically.

It said in a statement that since the signing of the Doha Agreement with the US, the Taliban have violated its commitments in regard to reduction in violence, cutting ties with terrorist groups and concluding serious talks for a political agreement.

The MFA emphasized that the Taliban’s actions does not constitute to a political solution to Afghanistan’s political crisis.

The ministry also added that the Afghan government took all necessary steps on its part such as release of more than six thousand Taliban prisoners. “For this reason, the Afghan government has formed a competent negotiating team and has participated in the Doha peace talks, including the third round of negotiations, with full commitment”, said the statement.

It added that the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan had recently sent a high-level political delegation to support the Republican negotiating team and to advance peace talks with the Taliban in Doha, but despite these efforts, there is still no sign of the Taliban’s commitment to ending violence and reaching a political agreement.

The foreign ministry asked the Russian envoy to share whatever proof he might have to back his claims of the Taliban’s willingness for a political solution.
