Taliban take over districts in Takhar, Samangan

TALUQAN (SW) – Sources in Takhar province told Salam Watandar that the Taliban have taken control of Chal, Yangi Qala and Hezar Samuch districts without clashes with the security forces.

According to the sources, the security forces have retreated to safe areas with their equipment to prevent casualties for the military and civilians. The source added that security forces will also retreat from Darqad district to Khwaja Bahauddin district.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed the group’s takeover of Yangi Qala, Chal and Hezar Samuch districts. Takhar security officials have not yet commented.

Earlier, the Taliban also took full control of Baharak district in Takhar on Saturday night. A source in Takhar told Salam Watandar that 75 security forces, including police and national security forces in the district, had surrendered to the Taliban with all their weapons and equipment.

The Taliban said 80 security forces had joined the group with all their light and heavy military equipment.

Meanwhile, Authorities in Samangan confirmed to Salam Watandar that Dara-e-Suf Bala district had been handed over to the Taliban without any clashes.

Sources said that government forces and popular uprising forces based in the district left for Bamyan province with all their equipment last night.

According to these sources, the Taliban entered the district this morning and seized the police headquarters.

Security officials have not commented on the fall of Dara-e-Suf Bala district, but the Taliban have confirmed their capture of the district.
