Taliban playing with fate of the nation, says Abdullah

KABUL (SW) – Abdullah Abdullah, chairman High Council for National Reconciliation, on Wednesday charged the Taliban for killing time and playing with the fate of the nation.

He said this addressing the sixth meeting of the leadership committee of the Council held at the Presidential Palace. Abdullah said the insurgents have intensified the war and endangered Afghanistan’s survival.

The head of the HCNR added the lack of progress in the peace talks has increased people’s concerns about the peace process.

Abdullah said that while the government and people of Afghanistan want peace, but the Taliban have spread the war to the gates of the capital Kabul. According to him, the Taliban think that with the withdrawal of foreign troops they can restore their previous regime, but that would not be allowed to happen.

He also called on the people and political leaders to put aside their rivalries and support the security forces and show that the people of Afghanistan are united.

“The war has reached the gates of the capital. The elders must declare their full support, we can compete with each other at times, but today nothing less is at stake than the survival of Afghanistan. As a citizen, forgetting all other identities, let us give hope to the people who look at us.”

Abdullah also told the meeting that no country in the region would benefit from continuing the war in Afghanistan. The Chairman of the HCNR also announced the continuation of US cooperation and support for the people of Afghanistan and said that the US recognizes the obstacles that have been created in the peace process.
