KABUL (SW) – Members of the local uprising forces against the Taliban would function under the army, said an official on Tuesday.
Spokesman for the security sector, Ajmal Omar Shinwari, told a press conference here that the recently formed anti-Taliban militia force at the grassroots level across the country would work under the umbrella of the Afghan army.
“The members of the local uprising force will soon be regularly organized in military framework”, he said adding that proper training and regulation of the force would be ensured.

Shinwari added that this force, after professional training, will operate alongside the security forces under the command of the army’s tactical commanders. He also emphasized that the Ministry of Interior is building the waiting units for the high security and emergency threat situation out of the 4,000 existing forces of this ministry. These units are led by retired generals and officers, he added.
Earlier on Monday, members of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) called for proper monitoring of the recently formed armed uprising forces against the Taliban.
As the Taliban mount attacks and keep seizing districts, popular uprisings are taking place in a number of districts to retake lost areas across the country. Dozens of people have been taking up arms against Taliban fighters and fighting alongside security forces.
The members of the house on Monday said they were concerned about the activities of the popular uprising forces. According to them, although the mobilization of the people against the Taliban will improve the security situation, but the activities of these forces should not call into question the competence and function of the security forces
