Italy reassures support to Afghanistan  

KABUL (SW) – The Permanent Representative of Italy to NATO, Francesco Talo paid a visit to Kabul and hold talks with Afghan officials on matters related to peace and bilateral ties.

Office of the First Vice President Amrullah Saleh said the Italian envoy to NATO led a high level delegation hold talks over an array of issues pertaining to the current prospects of peace process as well as continuity and expansion of bilateral relations.

It said Ambassador Francesco pointed out to the Italy’s financial engagement and military presence in Afghanistan and stressed that Italy’s deeply committed to support Afghanistan in preserving and building upon the values that were invested in, during the past two decades. “@francescom_talo also said that considering over a century of bilateral relations since 1919 between the two countries, Italy’s committed to maintaining and expansion of even longer-term bilateral relations with Afghanistan.

The National Security Council said Ambassador Franceso met with National Security Adviser Hamdullah Mohib who informed him about ongoing security sector reforms to improve Afghan National Defense and Security Forces capabilities to become increasingly independent and a dependable partner for long-term counter-terrorism cooperation with NATO.

“The two sides noted 100 years of diplomatic relations, underscoring that ties between the two nations date even farther back in time. They expressed a commitment to build on the current relationship for an enduring partnership”, said the statement.

The Italian diplomat also hold a video conference with members of the Afghan government’s peace delegation.
