Ghor residents fear Taywara district might fall to the Taliban

GHOR (SW) – Residents of Taywara in Ghor province fear collapse of the district to the Taliban if urgent security measures are not ensure.

Talking to Salam Watandar, a number of residents and security officials in the district expressed concerns over the security situation in the district and collapse of security checkpoints in some areas. They said that if the government does not take it seriously, the district will fall to the Taliban.

Meanwhile, Habib-ur-Rehman Malikzada, the police chief of the district, said some security forces in the district had left their posts and joined the Taliban due to lack of attention from top officials. Malikzada said the Taliban were still moving in several directions in the district and if left unchecked, the situation would worsen.

However, Ghor governor’s spokesman Zalmai Karimi said units of special forces have been sent to the district and a military operation would soon be launched.

These concerns came two days after two security forces joined the Taliban in the district with their weapons. On Friday, the Taliban killed two security forces on the outskirts of Taywara.
