KANDAHAR (SW) – Exchange of fire between the Afghan and Pakistani security forces have led to closure of the Spin Boldak – Chaman crossing point, sources in Kandahar said on Monday.
A security source, who did not want to be named, told Salam Watandar that Pakistani forces tried to extend a barbed wire fence to Luqman village in Spin Boldak district today, but were stopped by Afghan forces and clashes broke out between the two.
The source said Pakistani forces had been trying for two days to extend the barbed wire in the area, but the Afghan forces first issued a warning and then resisted.
The security source added that there had been several hours of light fire between the two sides and now the fighting had stopped, but according to him, the forces remained on alert.
At the same time, the Spin Boldak – Chaman crossing point between the two countries has been closed indefinitely.
Thousands of people pass through this point between the two countries on daily basis.
This is the third time during Ramadan that Pakistani security forces have tried to extend a barbed wire fence inside Afghanistan, but without success.
Pakistani forces have not yet commented.
