HERAT CITY (SW) – At least eight people got killed and 54 others hurt following a car bombing in Herat province, the interior ministry confirmed on Saturday.
Spokesman for the Ministry of Interior Affairs, Tariq Arian said among those injured in the blast include seven security forces and 47 civilians. According to him, the dead included a military man, three children, two women and two men.
Herat Governor Sayed Abdul Wahid Qatali said a bus full of explosives exploded near the 14th security district of Herat city at around 9pm on Friday. He said most of the casualties were caused by homes collapsing due to the intensity of the blast.
Qatali added that intelligence agencies are investigating how the bus packed with explosives made it to the city.
Confirming the heavy civilian casualties in the blast last night, Tariq Arian said that the incident had completely destroyed six residential houses and caused financial losses to dozens of shops as well. He blamed the Taliban for the blast.
Taliban have not yet commented.
