KABUL (SW) – The Afghan government is evaluating the new proposed plan for peace put forward by the US envoy Zalmay Khalilzad, said a senior official on Sunday.
Nader Nadery, a member and spokesman for the government’s peace delegation in Doha, said the government was evaluating the proposed plan. Speaking at an event at the Afghanistan Institute for Strategic Studies in Kabul, he said the plan was a proposal to end the war and bring peace to Afghanistan.
According to Nadery, the government was evaluating the plan and shall evaluate its effectiveness, to see if it helps the country or leads to another long-term disaster.
Naderi Nadery said parts of the plan that the Taliban may not agree with are in line with the values of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
A day earlier, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani reiterated that the transfer of power through elections is a non-negotiable principle.
The President made these remarks on Saturday at the opening ceremony of the third year of the 17th term of the parliament. Ghani said he is ready to make sacrifices to ensure a lasting and real peace in which the independence and the right of the people to self-determination are respected, but clarified it does not mean compromising the constitution.
President Ghani also called on the Taliban to stop merely chanting slogans, and instead reduce violence and attend peace talks.
