Atmar departs for India to garner support for peace process

KABUL (SW) – Leading a high-level government delegation, foreign minister Haneef Atmar on Monday left for New Delhi on a three-day visit to India.

The foreign ministry said the aim of the visit is to enhance bilateral ties and garner regional and international support for the Afghan peace process.

It said the Afghan foreign minister would meet his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and the National Security Adviser Ajit Doval during the visit. During his trip to India, the foreign minister would also meet former Indian ambassadors to Kabul, Afghan students’ representatives, traders as well as representatives of Afghan Hindu and Sikh community based in India.

This comes days ahead of a proposed international conference on the Afghan peace process in Turkey.
