KABUL (SW) – A woman has allegedly been killed by the Taliban in Balkh province on charge of collaborating with the government.

Saifur Rahman Rahmani, Zare district governor of Balkh province, told Salam Watandar that the Taliban shot dead this woman who lived in the center of the district near the police headquarters. Rahmani said the Taliban first abducted her and later shot her dead in area under their control.

According to him, the Taliban dumped the woman’s body in a hole and buried it. The district chief added that the woman had no co-operation with the government.

Local officials in Zare district say the woman was 42 years old and came from a poor family.

Adel Shah Adel, a spokesman for the Balkh police, confirmed the news, saying that in the past month the Taliban had shot dead two women and a man in the same district on charges of collaborating with the government.

Two days ago, the Taliban shot dead the wife of a local army soldier in Sar-e-Pul province.

This comes on the heels of an uptick in targeted assassinations across the country.
