2958 civilians lost their lives to raging war in 2020

KABUL (SW) – The Independent Human Rights Commission said in its annual report on Wednesday that 2958 civilians lost their lives in the country in 2020.

According to statistics recorded by the Independent Human Rights Commission, in 2020 a total of 8500 civilian casualties were recorded in the country past year. It said among them were 5,539 men, 847 women and 2,019 children. The commission said the identities of 95 people killed and injured had not been established.

According to the report, the indiscriminate use of magnetic mines, roadside mines, targeted assassinations, rocket attacks, suicide attacks, ground clashes and airstrikes have resulted in heavy civilian casualties.

Expressing grave concern over the increase in civilian casualties, the commission called for an immediate end to war and establishment of a ceasefire in the country.

Statistics of civilian casualties recorded by the commission showed that in 2020, on average, 8 civilians were killed and 15 others were injured every day.
