Rights activist from Baghlan killed in Kabul

KABUL (SW) – A civil society activist hailing from Baghlan province has been shot dead by unknown assailants in Kabul, police confirmed on Friday.

The Kabul Police Command confirmed that Abed Jahed, a civil activist in Baghlan province, was killed by unidentified gunmen in the 17th district of Kabul on Thursday.

Ferdous Faramarz, a spokesman for the Kabul Police Command, said that Jahed had been killed by unidentified gunmen in the ‘Bostan Kabul’ area. According to the spokesman, police have begun an investigation into the incident.

Mohammad Mohaqiq, the leader of the Wahdat-e-Islami party, has said in a statement that the slain civil rights activist was a member of his party. No individual or group has claimed responsibility for the incident.

Nine days ago, Fereshta Kohistani, a women’s rights activist, was assassinated along with her brother in Kapisa province. No individual or group claimed responsibility for that incident either.
