5 security forces killed in armed assaults in Kandahar, Herat

KABUL (SW) – At least 3 policemen got killed and 5 others got wounded following a car bomb blast in Kandahar, officials confirmed on Saturday.

Kandahar police spokesman Jamal Nasser Barakzai said the incident took place this morning in the village of Sufianzo in the Arghistan district when Taliban insurgents detonated an explosive-laden car at a police checkpoint.

According to him, 3 policemen were killed and 5 others were injured in the blast.

The Taliban have not yet commented.

Meanwhile, Herat police spokesman Abdul Ahad Walizada has said two security forces and a civilian had been killed in an armed attack in the province.

The incident took place around 10 am on Saturday when a group of gunmen sitting in a car opened fire on the security forces, he said, adding the assailants fled the scene, but police are trying to identify and arrest them.

No individual or group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
