Taliban release 39 captive civilians in Maidan Wardak

KABUL (SW) – The Taliban have freed all 39 civilians abducted from Maidan Wardak province last week.

According to a member of the provincial council, Ahmad Jaffari, local elders mediated for the release of these civilians. He said the civilians abducted by the Taliban have been freed in exchange for the six insurgents held by the local armed commander Ali Pur.

The civilians released by the Taliban are said to be residents of the Behsud district of the province.

Spokesman for the provincial governor, Muhibullah Sharifzay has confirmed these developments. He said the local elders helped with the release of these civilians in two groups.

The Taliban have not commented on it.
