KABUL (SW) – NATO has condemned the latest string of terrorist attacks as unforgivable crimes against civilians working toward a better life and a brighter future.

Ambassador Stefano Pontecorvo, Senior Civilian Representative of the Alliance, said in a series of tweets on Saturday that NATO not only condemn these attack, but provide training, advice and assistance to Afghan forces as they work to improve security. “Following the Kabul university attack, for instance, NATO forces provided security and support to Afghan forces as the secured the scene”, he tweeted.

Responding to a question posed by Salam Watandar about the stalled peace process, he said patience was needed as the parties come together to resolve their differences and bring an end to the fighting. “The #AfghanistanPeaceProcess is fragile but it is the best chance for peace. I urge all parties to seize this historic opportunity & do their best to move the talks forward”, he tweeted.

He added that several people have shared their concerns about the high level of violence around the country. “I share your concern. And let me be clear: It is unacceptable & the violence needs to stop. The #AfghanistanPeaceProcess offers the best chance for peace in a generation”, he tweeted.

Ambassador Pontecorvo added the high level of violence throughout the country is jeopardizing the process. “The Taliban must reduce the unacceptable levels of violence to pave the way for a ceasefire”, tweeted the NATO SCR.
