Imran Khan arrives in Kabul on an official trip

KABUL (SW) – Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan landed in the capital Kabul on Thursday on an official visit.

He was received by Foreign Minister Mohammed Haneef Atmar and the Afghan president’s special envoy for Pakistan Omar Daudzay at Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International Airport.

Addressing joint press conference, Pakistani Prime Minister said that he had come to Kabul to assure that his government would help establish peace and a ceasefire in Afghanistan.

In part of his speech, the Pakistani Prime Minister said that half of the population on both sides of the Durand Line had been affected by the terrorism. Khan stated that the purpose of his visit to Kabul was to build trust and strengthen bilateral relations.

He said the Afghan people have been victims of four decades of war and the government and people of Pakistan understand the concerns of the Afghan people.

President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani also said that an increase in violence in Afghanistan was unacceptable.

Imran Khan is flanked by foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) director general Lt. Gen. Lt Gen Faiz Hameed, special representative for Afghanistan Mohammad Sadiq and the prime minister’s adviser on commerce, Abdul Razak Dawood.

“The focus (of the visit) would be on further deepening the fraternal bilateral relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan, the Afghan peace process, and regional economic development and connectivity,” the PM’s office said in a statement on Wednesday, ahead of Khan’s visit.
