ALP men join Taliban in Badakhshan

FAIZABAD (SW) – Local officials in Badakhshan have reported the switching of sides by at least 20 members of the local police force with the Taliban.

According to the provincial police headquarters, the said members of the Afghan Local Police were under the siege of the Taliban before they joined the insurgents.

Sanaullah Ruhani, spokesman for the police headquarters, said ever since the insurgents stormed the Khwahan district, they have no longer been in contact with the ALP men there.

Meanwhile, the Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahed has claimed via a statement that at least 51 policemen in Khwahan district have joined the insurgents.
