This report includes interviews with 25 girls and women who have been deprived of education and work, and all of them narrate how their positions in the family and society have been undermined.

Findings by Salam Watandar based on conversations with a number of women show that women who are financially independent have more freedom in decision-making and enjoy better mental health.

Women who have experienced childbirth at very young age share their stories of suffering from various physical and mental health issues. They explain that underage marriage and early childbirth pose significant threats to both mothers and their children.

Stephen Rodriques, head of the UNDP in Afghanistan, told Salam Watandar that these women are active in fields such as sewing, carpet weaving, food production and processing, and other areas.
