“While the parties talk peace, we’ve seen a marked escalation in violence this month, with Afghan civilians as ever paying the heaviest price,” said Omar Waraich, Head of South Asia at Amnesty International.

One member of the security forces and four women were among the victims, an official said blaming the Taliban insurgents for planting the landmine.

It is said the air force wanted to target the Taliban after a deadly attack on security forces on Tuesday that left more than 50 security personnel, including the security chief of the Takhar police command, killed.
